Orthopaedic Pain Management Service
The majority of orthopaedic pain referrals are for lower back and neck pain. We believe a primary driver for patients continuing to seek healthcare advice for orthopaedic pain is a lack of understanding of why they are experiencing pain.
In our experience patients tend to have poor knowledge of which pain issues may be a sign of a serious pathology and which can be safely coped with at home.
This leads to maladaptive behaviour around the pain resulting in a revolving door of attendance to medical and allied health professionals for advice, imaging and ultimately unnecessary referrals to secondary care.
